WHY IS THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT A NECESSITY FOR EVERY BELIEVER

It is essential that every believer be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

(June 5, 2022)

Acts 1:4-5 ⁴ Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. ⁵ John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Ephesians 5:18 ¹⁸ Don’t get drunk on wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 

 
 WHY WE MUST EACH BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT BECAUSE WE HAVE A LIFE TO LIVE THAT IS BEYOND OUR ABILITY.

 

1. LOOK AT THE LIFE THAT GOD CALLS ON US TO LIVE

     – 1. A life like Jesus lived

 (1 John 2:6). ⁶ Anyone who says he is a Christian should live as Christ did.

• A life of purity

(1 Pet. 1:15-16). ¹⁵ But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. ¹⁶ For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”

• A life of love

(Matt. 5:43-44). ⁴³ “There is a saying, ‘Love your friends and hate your enemies.’ ⁴⁴ But I say: Love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!

 BUT WE ARE WEAK AND UNABLE IN OUR OWN STRENGTH TO LIVE SUCH A LIFE.

1. We are more prone to hate, envy, and complain.
2. We are more prone to live like the world than to live like Jesus.

 

WHY WE MUST EACH BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT BECAUSE WE HAVE A JOB TO DO THAT IS GREATER THAN OUR RESOURCES.

 

1. JESUS LEFT US WITH A BIG JOB.
2. It Is Called The Great Commission.

Matt. 28:19-20; ¹⁹ Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. ²⁰ Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Matt. 24:14 ¹⁴ And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.

 
 But Our Resources Are Inadequate For The Job.

1. Our personal resources are inadequate.
2. Our financial resources are inadequate.

 

 And Yet, Jesus Has Promised Us Power To Get The Job Done:

1. In Acts 1 He gave His disciples a promise and a command:
2. The Promise: (1:8): “You will be my witnesses. . . to the ends of the earth.”

⁸ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

1. The Command (1:4-5): “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised . . .”
